Rodox.com review

If you’re someone with an interest in vintage porn, if you are a collector or if you have an interest in porn history, Rodox is definitely a site you will want to check out.

Rodox is a famous Danish porn studio that started producing hardcore porn magazines in 1968, before porn was even legal in Denmark. As the studio grew and as technology evolved, they eventually moved into 8 mm films, then into VHS tapes and eventually into DVDs, though magazines continued to be produced. In the mid-1990s, the magazine titles were sold to a German company who continued producing them until 2006. Between 1967 and 2006, Rodox and its successor produced over 3000 books and magazines. Each of the magazines had five or six colour photo sets, featuring a mix of softcore and hardcore shoots. It’s many of these photo sets that are made available at the Rodox channel at Adult Prime.

Readers should note that this channel is 100% photos from the magazines and doesn’t include any of the 8 mm loops, VHS or DVD scenes.

My porn collecting days didn’t begin until the 1980s, but I still recall ads in the back of the magazines that were available to me (such as Hustler, Swank, Club and Penthouse) offering magazines, 8 mm film loops and eventually VHS tapes from Rodox. Many people who began viewing and collecting porn in the 1980s like me might better recognize Rodox’s affiliated studio, Color Climax Corporation.

Throughout my early days of collecting porn in magazines and VHS tapes, I was never able to source anything from the European Rodox or Color Climax studios. For someone who could only source softcore with the occasional lesbian shoot, anything from Rodox or Color-Climax at that time would have seemed like it was from another planet. As a fan of vintage porn, much of what was available is amateur and surreptitious, being distributed through underground channels. But with Rodox and Color-Climax, these were studios that operated legally and produced hardcore porn that wouldn’t seem out of place in 2022 with a significant focus on anal sex, and even acts like golden showers were common.

A last bit of trivia about Rodox is that there are some famous names associated with it. John Thomson got his start in the adult business by working behind the scenes at both Rodox and Color-Climax. Thomson, a German producer, went on to create some legendary studios such as German Goo Girls and 666, which remain some of the most extreme studios producing porn today. John Holmes and a young Rocco Siffredi also appeared in Rodox productions.

As I noted above, Rodox was known for its anal shoots and subscribers will find lots of those here, though there are also plenty of vaginal sex scenes as well. Rodox also shot golden shower scenes and some of those are here as well.

Readers should also note that clothes, hairstyles and makeup all reflect the era when the photo sets were shot. One stylistic aspect of the photos that surprised me is that many of the photo sets feature models with shaved or trimmed pubic hair before it became more popular in the 1980s. But, for fans of big bushes, there are still lots of those to keep you happy here.

What’s offered at the Rodox channel on Adult Prime are 1376 photo sets from magazines dating all the way back to the beginning in 1969. As I noted above, Rodox produced many more photo sets than this so there are some gaps at the site, but for those of us who enjoy collecting vintage porn like this, having access to anything from Rodox is valuable.

Rodox.com is no longer updating, with the last photo set uploaded in 2016. In fact, the Rodox site was created and completed on September 30, 2016, with all 1376 photo sets being made available that day. September 30, 2016, was a great day for vintage photo collectors!

Readers will want to note that the resolutions are much lower than photos shot today. I believe most photos were scanned a long time ago, and they haven't been re-scanned in a higher resolution since then. Being published in magazines also means that the photo sets are significantly smaller than what many photo collectors would expect today. Rodox was a magazine with five or six photo sets in each one so it should be no surprise that most photo sets have approximately 20 photos in them.

Some readers may look at the available photo resolutions and set sizes and ask why I have given Rodox good scores. That’s a valid question. My answer is that I’ve scored Rodox objectively, and not as a current site. I accept that with photos dating back over 50 years that were published in magazines that I can’t apply today’s standards. For me, as a collector, having access to these vintage photo sets, even with their limitations, is worth it. I don’t think that the option for us with Rodox is low resolution/small sets versus high resolution/large sets but the option is to have access to these as they exist or to not have access to them at all. I’d prefer to have that access, warts and all.

And speaking of resolutions, they vary from photo set to photo set, likely depending on when it was originally shot. Each photo set is only available in one resolution. The photos are available online as well as downloadable as photo set ZIP files.

A big advantage of Rodox is that it’s part of Adult Prime, a huge network of European porn, and you get full access to all of it. It gives subscribers access to more than 28,000 videos and over 28,000 photo sets across 134 channels, with most of them updating regularly. While Rodox itself is no longer updating, any subscriber who joins to get access to those photo sets will also have access to enough porn to keep them busy for a decade.

Using the “Studios” menu to get to Rodox brings you to a series of pages with large thumbnails for each photo set. Clicking on the thumbnail brings you to the page where the set or individual photos can be downloaded. A slideshow is also available for each of the sets. The network offers many ways to browse and search its huge library, and everything works smoothly. With photo sets being small and resolutions low, the ZIP file sizes are also quite small, so download speeds shouldn’t be an issue. However, for subscribers who will also join to get larger videos and photo sets, Adult Prime has fast video downloads and stable streaming.

If you are a collector of vintage porn or if you are interested in the history of the adult industry, Rodox is a great resource for older photos. This is a treasure tove that will take a while to explore.

What makes it even better is that some other big vintage paysites are also included in membership, as they are also part of the Adult Prime network: Color Climax, Pornstar Classics, Retro Raw, Sweethearts Classics, Vintage Classic Porn.
