Ricky's Room review

Ricky's Room is a new site started by the popular black adult star named Ricky Johnson. Johnson got his start in the adult industry in 2016/2017 and immediately got noticed for his talent and ability to perform. Johnson won several 2017 awards for being the best new male performer of the year. He followed that with a contract with Brazzers. He's shot for many well-known, well-established and popular sites such as BangBros Network, Blacked.com, Babes.com. New Sensations, DarkX, Team Skeet, Naughty America, X-Art and Evil Angel. In other words, Johnson is a talent to be reckoned with.

While I have no first hand experience, what I have read indicates that Johnson has an excellent reputation as a performer and as somebody who tries to develop a chemistry with his co-stars. What I've read indicates that many top female stars seek him out to perform with him.

I've reviewed sites started by popular performers in the past. I've subscribed to many more, both by female and male performers. Many of these felt like vanity projects and a means to promote the performer's own “brand.” Some of the sites didn't feel like they were actually trying to give the fans/subscribers anything of value. That isn't the case with Ricky's Room. I'll admit, I went into this review with a healthy scepticism, but that scepticism was soon overtaken with respect for Johnson's ability to produce and direct some excellent scenes. This is no simple vanity project.

Further, with sites started by popular male performers, and even in scenes with some popular male performers, those male performers either see themselves as central to the scene or impose themselves as the centre of the scene. You, as reader, may have a different opinion, but my thought is that a male performer in straight porn must always put his female co-star(s) at the forefront. Yes, many straight porn buyers, including myself, seek out some male performers, but the focus of the scene is always going to be the woman. Here, Johnson clearly understands this. While he is in most of the scenes, he never tries to take the spotlight away from the women he is performing with.

In the press release announcing Ricky's Room, among the stated goals were that each scene would have “chemistry” between the performers. The release also stated that it wanted to create an atmosphere that “will allow talent to be comfortable and a place where new male and female talent can get a chance to showcase their talents.” In watching the scenes here, I can say that they've met these lofty goals.

Their other goal was to make gonzo scenes with a “nighttime aesthetic”. As a big fan of gonzo scenes, I have nothing to complain about. The nighttime look gives the scenes a sultry passionate atmosphere, which some really love. Naturally, the scenes are all quite dark. The set is dark and appears to use dark furniture with dim lighting. Only the performers have light on them. I like this look sometimes, but I'd also like to see some variety. I don't want the reader to get the impression that the scenes are so under-lit that it's hard to see what's going on, because that isn't the case. The action in the middle of the screen is in focus and in great quality. It's hard to shoot in the dark and Ricky's Room does a great job. The scenes are available in 4K UHD and they look great.

The choice of a “nighttime aesthetic” is that it draws an obvious comparison between Ricky's Room and Blacked.com and Blacked Raw. Apart from the choice of lighting, there are other similarities between Ricky's Room and Blacked.com and Blacked Raw. The settings are similar and the clothes are often quite similar. Admittedly, Both Blacked and Blacked Raw often have a thin plot, but those plots tend to be so thin and so short-lived within the scene, that they are inconsequential and the scenes are much closer to gonzo. It appears that Ricky's Room may be going for the same look that is already available at Blacked.com and Blacked Raw.

My comparison between Ricky's Room on one hand, and Blacked and Blacked Raw on the other, is not meant as a criticism. The scenes at Ricky's Room are excellent quality and are able to stand on their own without being compared to anyone else. Further, if you are going to emulate someone, you might as well emulate excellent sites such as Blacked and Blacked Raw. My hope is that as Ricky's Room progresses, Johnson finds his own unique aesthetic and brings that to the screen. Even with the little I know about Johnson, apart from being a fan, I'm confident that he can create unique scenes that will continue to win fans.

The scenes are all mainstream hard-core porn, and that's meant as a good thing. The sex is hard and passionate, but otherwise relatively “vanilla” so subscribers looking for circus acts will have to look elsewhere. There is standard foreplay before the main event begins. The sex in the scenes unfolds in typical porn fashion.

Most of the scenes on this site are male/female couples, though there are several threesomes (M/F/F) and one M/F/F/F group sex scene. For fans of anal scenes, there are a few of those available as well.

While Ricky's Room is a relatively new site, and Johnson is relatively new to directing and producing scenes, everything about the site and the scenes themselves reflect an attention to detail and professionalism. Ricky's Room can go up against any of the established sites any day.

The models at Ricky's Room are all currently top tier. This likely speaks to Johnson's reputation within the industry that he can bring big names to his scenes for a new site. The site has both white and black female stars. One noticeable, and positive, attribute of the site is that Ricky's Room hires a higher proportion of black female stars. While the proportion of black models in the business is relatively low, and the proportion of Black female models in the top tier of the industry is even lower, to Johnson's credit, there is a high proportion of his scenes with those women. Some may read this as me advocating for some sort of “affirmative action” program in porn, but that would be incorrect. I enjoy watching scenes with Black stars such as Alexis Tae, Scarlit Scandal and Ana Foxxx, and Ricky's Room gives me an opportunity to do that on this one site. I appreciate that.

As for the male models in the scenes, Ricky Johnson is in most of them, though there are two scenes with different men.

As noted, Ricky's Room is a new site, having launched in late May, 2022, with an initial offering of eight scenes. Since its launch, the site has continued to grow with the addition of a new scene every week. At the time of this writing, there are 22 scenes available. These 22 scenes feature 27 of the hottest models working today. (Remember, there are some threesomes here.)

Each scene offers a variety of ways to view it. All scenes are offered in both streaming and downloads. Downloads are offered as part of all subscriptions and not as an additional cost, and, in my opinion, including downloads with the basic subscription fee is something that should be applauded.

Streaming is available in three resolutions, with the missing resolution being 4K. For streaming, 1080P Full HD is the highest option.

Each scene also offers screenshots and photos. The photos are solo teasing galleries with the girls, there is no hardcore action in them like in the videos. The screenshots don't appear to be available as a zip file and the photos are only available in one resolution as either a zip file or as single photos. Each photo set has approximately 55 photos, with some variation in that number. See our photos table for more details.

The site is pretty basic, but it has a nice design, and it works well on all devices including mobile phones. You can browse the videos or the girls. For searching the only option is the search box in the menu. It would be nice to have a search page with all keywords listed.

I found download speeds and streaming to be fast and stable, though your own Internet connection will obviously play a role here as well.

Any review should hit on a site's negative points as well, and, well, this is going to be a very short list. The most obvious downside of the site is that it is still relatively small. However, it's important to note that the site is growing with the addition of four new scenes each month. Your own approach to porn may be different from mine, but I'll pay for quality over quantity all the time. For my porn-buying dollars, the subscription fee for 22 scenes (and growing) of this quality and with models this beautiful, provides good value.

The only other potential downside, and it likely isn't going to be that for most, is that the site is made a relatively unusual decision to require an additional $9.95 fee to access interviews and behind-the-scenes footage. The only other sites I've seen where this is done are those that are operated by the same company. It seems like an odd decision, but if you aren't interested in BTS stuff, then it isn't an issue. I like BTS material and interviews, but without being able to see a few free previews, I'm not likely to spend the additional money.

The bottom line on Ricky's Room is that it's a great site and I highly recommend checking it out. It features some of the hottest models currently in the business in some well-shot and hot scenes. If you like the dark, sweaty, nighttime sex, you'll love their scenes. I appreciate that the site gives access to scenes with Black models among the majority of non-Black models, and I really appreciate that they don't charge extra for downloads. The site is easy to use and continues to grow weekly. Ricky's Room is a good value and deserves support.
